How to be Aware of your Gifts
“But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”
1 Corinthians 12:31
Preface
Every person has a gifting or talent, but sometimes discovering what your gifting is can be very difficult. I want to make it clear that you can do many things, but a gifting is something that God has given you to use specially for His kingdom. A gifting is something that you specialize in and enjoy doing. That doesn’t always mean that your gift is going to be easy or that it will become the dream job. I want to divide this article into three types of main gifts. If you are struggling to find what your gifting is, be encouraged! Because, God has created you to be different from everyone else. Follow His plan for your life and trust Him daily.
This article is not ment to be used as a check list of your gifts and not your gifts! It is to be used with care and discernment in order to pinpoint areas in your life that God is using, that you may not even realize. Don’t take my word for it, study the Bible, ask your parents or authorities, and ask God for the insight that they have for your life.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
Psalm 139:14
Gifted with your Hands
Your gifting might be in your hands! Maybe it’s a skill such as, painting or music. It might be a kind of needlework including sewing, embroidery, applique, and more. There are so many skills using your hands!
Gifted with Physical Capabilities
Many people, not myself, have amazing physical strengths. In sports, these gifts are showcased and sometimes even idolized. God wants even those talents to be used for His glory. For example, He used Olympic champion, Eric Liddell, to carry the Gospel to many people. Eric Liddell gave God top priority and God used his life in a mighty way!
Gifted with Words
Maybe you’re that person with the witty response or maybe you use eloquent words. Perhaps, you have the amazing ability to convey your passion on paper.
Waiting on the Lord
If you are still not inspired, simply wait. God’s timing and ways are perfect. Sometimes we miss what God is doing in our lives because we have an idea of what we want our life to look like.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
